M-Bus & Wireless M-Bus

The metering bus for water, gas, heat and electricity

M-Bus is the European standard for reading utility meters — water, gas, heat and electricity — over a robust two-wire field bus. Wireless M-Bus extends the same protocol to battery-powered nodes over sub-GHz radio. Wiman is engineering metering-class gateways with native M-Bus support for sub-metering and utility integration.

Where it is used

  • Sub-metering rollouts in residential and commercial buildings
  • District heating and cooling networks
  • Water and gas distribution networks
  • Battery-powered remote meters via Wireless M-Bus (T / S / C modes)

How Wiman supports it

Master (engineering) · Wired M-Bus + Wireless M-Bus listener

  • Primary and secondary addressing — read meters by ID or scan the bus
  • EN-13757 frame parsing for wired M-Bus telegrams
  • Wireless M-Bus T1 / S1 / C1 mode listening (sub-GHz)
  • Mapped to clean tag data and forwarded over MQTT / HTTP
  • In active development — pilot deployments under way

Integration tip

Wired M-Bus is polarity-insensitive and tolerates long runs — talk to engineering about your meter make/model for compatibility.

In active engineering

There is no shipping M-Bus & Wireless M-Bus product in the catalogue yet — we are validating against real-world equipment now. Pilot units and early-access firmware are available for projects where M-Bus & Wireless M-Bus is on the spec.
